English to Arabic !

I still remember when "ajeeb.com" was the only website that supports the English to Arabic online translation. Today, as we all can see the competition between the web leaders is getting us more and more services. Google and Microsoft Live Labs, are competing again and they both have the service that enables you to translate, words, essays or even websites into several languages.

Earlier today, I wanted to put this service into my weblog so I let the readers to translate my posts into several languages. I didn’t want to make blind decision and use Live’s engine, and deep down I know am not going to use Google’s one. So I ran this small test. I tried to translate one of my weblog posts.. and here are the results !

Honestly, if I add one of these two engines to my weblog I would be punishing the Arabic readers !

If you can read Arabic please have a look at the pictures above and you will immediately feel the difference. Now if we take the "noun/verb" problem away which the two engines cannot handle and I don’t really think that it can be handled. We can see that, Google's engine -unfortunately- is much much smarter in translating to Arabic - I didn’t test any other language. Live's engine, doesn’t even taste the language which makes it REALLY hard to read a single translated line ! While Live Translator was trying to dumbly translate word by word to Arabic, Google’s engine, translated my name exactly the way I write in Arabic !

Every time I do a comparison like this, I end up thinking, do Microsoft developers find it really hard to develop a smarter translating engine !? Do Microsoft Research people (PhD holders) really find it hard to spend some time in reviewing what they have concluded before it goes LIVE !!? We all know how PICKY Microsoft is in hiring new people, and especially when it comes to developers and Program Managers !

The only thing makes it easier on me is, the translator is still BETA.. So, let’s pray it become smarter in the next versions !

Where is Ayman !? You heard anything about him !?

Okay, let me start my post by announcing that Ayman Farouk is still ALIVE ! Yes, but he was hiding between the books for the last couple of months !

So, why was he hiding between the books ? hmm, because last October & November were really two hard months, if you live in Jordan and you have studied at one of our universities, you'd easily know that these two months are FULL OF exams and quizzes ! And if you know me in person, the picture would get CLEARER to you, cause this semester Ayman is combing the hardest Engineering topics - trying to be a superhero !

What’s Next !? More books !? In the next couple of months, I will try give the community a bigger part of my time - the problem is that am starting finals in January 15th ! That makes it really tight ! But let’s look at the bright side, I am currently reading about the VoIP stuff, and I will try to get Windows Mobile OS involved in this story [ I will be posting in details about, later on ! ] and preparing some cool articles for the community - not about new technologies, but about the forgotten basics !

Am saying goodbye August 2007 and I know there are still two more days... But for me & for Jordev August has just gone ! I have just come back from our second community night in August, which was delivered by Mohammad Zayed. We had a very pleasant presentation and demos by this guy.. we had a great number of attendees again, and btw demos & Slides will be uploaded very soon..

Am glad people started to realize how important the community is.. I mean 60 IT-Pro from Jordan had come to our session today and they were so glad they made it to the session is just amazing.. their attendance gives us the power and gives us this PUSH to give more..

Lets try to make the upcoming September better than this flaming August ..

I just came back home... I was out since 12 pm ! preparing for the " iTHINK COMMUINTY" thing ... and yeah .. that was amazing !

Well, simply if you were not at the courtyard today.. am telling you brother, you missed a lot ! The atmosphere was really amazing, we had a great number of attendees we got about 85 person ! yeah.. thats awesome isn't it ;) ?

Samer talked about the community and he really changed LOT of things in mind about the community. I personally got benefit of this amazing community night !

Expression Blend Workshop - Day One

I just came back home from GJU after I finished the the first day of Expression Blend.

I have talked about the Expression Design and how it integrates with the Expression Blend and I gave couple of examples. The guys liked the new Expression Studio.

Tomorrow I will be discussing more details of Expression Blend ..

Moving from blogging website to another is not my hobby. I have changed three blogs, YES ! but every time I did was for a reason.

And the reason I have moved my blog to Jordev, was my intention to make the blogging idea better in Jordev's culture. I used to have a better number hits on my old blog, yes ! But wait, they say " If you get the ride you gotta buy the ticket " .. And I want to increase the number of bloggers in Jordev.. And am sure that one day, I will be having the best hits ever through this website. That day will be closer if you guys got closer to the blogs and felt the real meaning of them.

Jordev is going to make this August full of energy and excitement. We started the month by announcing the Silverlight Contest, which is -seriously - a very competitive contest .. cause we have received many emails from people who are willing to contribute and they all have great ideas.

Last week, we also announced the Challenge Community Night. The speaker of this challenge thing will deliver his/her session very soon. So, if you have what it takes .. and you still didn't send you CV .. send it now to info@jordev.net ..

Is that everything for August ? Nope ! We still have more and more stuff and surprises.. There will be a VERY VERY interesting Community Night and its going to be delivered by a GUEST SPEAKER from outside the country ! who is that speaker ? Am not going to say at the moment :P

One more thing, there will be a small workshop on one of the latest Microsoft products very soon.. And am going to keep you updated .. so be tuned !
