i would like to know if i can use sharepoint to integrate our N-Tire Web application with Active Directory. please advice.

I'm not sure I understand your question correctly. If you're asking if SharePoint integrates with AD, the answer is yes. However, SharePoint doesn't serve as a middleware to integrate other apps together. If you build your custom web app over SharePoint, then yes, it will integrate with AD.

no need to use SharePoint to integrate with AD, you can use windows authentication which will make browser sign in the users using their windows accounts, and using the WindowsIdentity class you will be able of knowing their info + getting info from LDAP.
